World Natural Heritage Site: The Dolomites
Those who have already been fortunate enough to see the fascinating lights of the Dolomites in the sunset can understand why UNESCO speaks of the “unique monumental beauty” of this mountain landscape. In June 2009 the Dolomites were declared a World Natural Heritage Site and with such unique recognition comes great responsibility. This breathtaking natural treasure requires particular protection with regards to the sustainable development of the entire mountain region.
Our country is like a little open-air museum decorated with numerous legends which have found their way from the bright peaks and bold tors to the hearts of the people. The solidness and the colourfulness of the rocky walls are powerfully alluring; no wonder then that it’s not only us Dolomite locals who feel particularly close to these mountains.
